Awkward as always

Awkward as a Process

Art is not just about technique and execution of a material. The feeling and understanding that someone finds in art, whether that be a silly little thing or something serious, is the emotion and mindset it was born in. Understanding is never as perfect as the artist hoped or is read into far more than the artist ever intended. The process from viewer to artist to artwork and back through is awkward. Its sometimes revealing too much on accident or not saying enough and the viewer receiving a message that was never there to begin with. It is a process. An awkward one. But without that awkwardness, neither can even begin to try to understand each other through the next work. And the next. And the next. And the next.

About

ThArtOfAwkward is by the artist Charli Braa and maintained by the Team Awkward Crew. They create and share the process and experience of art with others with the intention of making people feel more comfortable in the arts. Creating art is never as straightforward as it could be (on most projects) and learning flexibility and to follow recipes/instructions as guidelines is part of what can make art so much fun and so much more worth it. Whether intended or not, art will often show how you are feeling and what your human nature is; and seeing this and knowing this influence is where anyone who makes anything can grow and change. Styles change with the artist as they grow, learn, and change. Charli and the Team hope to show through this channel and sharing art and its experiences that its all awkward and its all weird but it can all be worth it even just to make one step forward.

Our Purpose

TheArtOfAwkward encourages all the awkwardness of the making and sharing process. Nothing is perfect and even the most professional artists mess up or make something up on the fly. It does not matter where you are starting from here. Everyone can do art. With some practice and failures and lessons learned, the better you and your art can be. Its supposed to be awkward, but it does get better.
